University of Delaware Chorale Performs Live From Jerusalem For Graduates in Delaware

The University of Delaware Chorale spent the month after the spring semester embarking on an international concert tour that took the group to locations including Venice, Paris and Jerusalem. So what happens when the University wants to feature the chorale in their commencement ceremony taking place during the group’s tour?

On Saturday May 27, 2017, graduates, their families, and friends celebrated the University of Delaware’s 168th Commencement with a speech from former Governor of Delaware Jack Markell. Attendees also received a special treat when the school’s chorale group performed live from Jerusalem, where they were scheduled to perform with the city’s symphony orchestra in the opera house the next day.

LiveU’s At-Home Production solution helped the University’s Media Services department to live stream the chorale’s performances from Jerusalem to the actual commencement on the Fightin’ Blue Hen football field in Delaware. Previously, they never would have been able to afford the transmission, much less been able to produce the event on-site. LiveU technology enabled the production to take place in the school’s centralized studio control room in Delaware instead of sending a large team and satellite truck to Israel. They simply hired a local crew in Israel to produce a three-camera switched feed that utilized LiveU to wirelessly send the live content to the school’s production control room in Delaware. The media services department added graphics in real-time while broadcasting the stream to the big screens at commencement ceremony and to the school’s website for family and friends viewing online. Audio from the feed was also split out to the audio console on the stadium floor to feed the stadium sound system.

“The stream from Israel went perfect. From the start of the stream to the end of the commencement hours later, we were solid. The audio was particularly outstanding. The LiveU unit passed audio that, combined with the natural reverb in the performance space over there, sent chills throughout the 25,000+ in the stadium. It was a big day for our new administration and a big win for us.” Carl Asti, Director/IT-Media Services, University of Delaware.
